More Cakes

Gold and lace cake with a ribbon of navy blue and an antique finish - Liuna Station - George Room

Purple roses, and lots of them for this beautiful, modern wedding at the Hamilton Art Gallery.

Celebratory cake for McMaster's PGY 3's graduation ceremony....doctors, obviously!

Pretty little pink birthday cake.

My dear friend Wal's birthday on New Year's Day (hence the clock face on the top of the cake).  Champagne and carrot cake is a perfect combination for midnight!

Lily's first birthday with this pink Chanel cake with pretty pink and silver tiara.  Little fashionista in the making, clearly.

Paris.........Oh Paris, what can I say?

Mini cake for Amal's birthday ordered as one of her surprise gifts from her husband.

A Few Cakes From This Week

A sweet sixteen cake all in pink and grey for this very special occasion!

A little birthday cake with a big blue bow.

For a travel themed wedding shower we made these two antique hat boxes with travel stamps all over it and finished with gold painted details to add shine and interest to this lovely cake.

Ah, for a body building enthusiast what do you make?  A cake with weights on the top and names of muscles to develop all the way around.  Even body builders eat cake son their birthday don't they Brian?

Pictures From Our Workbench

Sometimes we don't get a chance to take pictures of our cakes in the usual way but generally we get a shot of them somehow.  Here are a few that "got away" but were photographed while they were being worked on:

A Very Big Cake - Sheraton Hotel, Hamilton

The largest cake of the week (actually the largest cake of the month) lots of bling, lots of black and silver.
The Sheraton Hotel is just a stone's throw from our shop which is a good thing, it makes delivery so much simpler!

Calla Lily Wedding Cake

Sadly I took this picture before I'd put all the pretty black filler flowers on!
A simple black and white cake for a small intimate wedding.  Black bling ribbon around each tier with sugar calla lilies to finish the top and little black blossoms.

70th Birthday - Jonathan's of Oakville

This striking black and white 70th birthday cake to go to Jonathan's of Oakville (also one of my favourite restaurants!)
This cake was fun to do.

Giant Cupcake

A special cake for my son and his lovely girlfriend Negin, based on her favourite colours, black and grey, with a little bit of pink (I can never resist) and lots of bling which regrettably doesn't really show up in this picture.  The cherries were covered in pink glitter and the black flowers were edged in silver glitter we added rows of diamonds on the bottom of the cupcake.

Happy Birthday Neggie Noo Noos!

French Inspiration

This cake was chosen by Zahraa for her birthday, but this style would suit pretty much any occasion, wedding, engagement, birthday, shower anything with a dramatic or a French theme.
The stripes are hand painted with edible ink and the pearls piped on and trimmed with charms and tassels.  The charms were painted with 24kt gold which is of course edible.
Two sugar peonies and edible ivy (real ivy is poisonous and should not be put on cakes) to finish this cake.

This cake was inspired by a Lorri Hutchinson creation.

Other Cakes We've Made

Hello Kitty cake with pretty frills, bows, buds and hand painted design.

Black lace, so suitable for around Halloween time, both elegant and seasonal.

To celebrate Eid (Muslim religious holiday) this cake with antique finish and lots of gold was ordered.

For a Disney fan, this Playhouse themed cake.  The client provided ready made Disney figurines to put on to the cake.  For copyright reasons we are not allowed to use Disney images or make figurines.

Poppy Day - 11.11.11

Who could get married on 11.11.11 without having poppies on their cake?  Not this bride!
We took the pattern from the wedding stationery and transferred it into sugar for the main wedding cake design and added red poppies and red glitter for the finishing touches.
Obviously, this cake was red velvet.

Black and Diamond Wedding Cake

With just a little dab of deja vu this cake was the perfect centrepiece for a small local wedding.  The soft quilting pattern at the bottom of the cake gave some texture, the black bow adding drama and the diamond brooch elegance, what a combination!

Cute Wedding Cake

A wedding cake to the bride's design with black, deep purple and red as the wedding colours.  The table linens at the banquet hall matched perfectly with this perky little wedding cake.

Black and Purple

A small wedding cake with black and white ribbon and decorated with purple silk flowers.

Black and White Dots - Ancaster Old Mill

This classic polka dot cake was very striking for this late summer wedding.  The right amount of smartness and the right amount of whimsy.

Euchre Cake For Myrna

Myrna is a euchre fan, so it was easy to design a cake around this theme, with the best euchre hand (or so I'm told) and lots of black and red details.  We added red roses for a feminine touch and a birthday banner to mark the occasion.
The cards were printed on to edible paper for a realistic look in standard playing card size.
Red velvet cake inside.

Envelope King - Tamahac Club, Ancaster

Sometimes it's difficult to make a cake for a man, especially one who's favourite colour is black and who doesn't play sports and who is retired.  The theme of the birthday dinner was ivory and gold and I found out that 'Chip' was retired from the envelope business....hence the envelope on the top.
We antiqued the ivory of the cake with gold dust and added a few little embellishments and this became a very formal looking, guy kind of cake!

Black and White - Knollwood Golf Club

Cute little black and white cake with quilting and ribbon feature.  What a cute little cake topper?

Lucky Horseshoe

A client wanted a birthday cake for his girlfriend with the following criteria:
  • Lots of black
  • Pink
  • Bling
  • no really, BLING
  • A bow
  • Cupcakes
  • Something to do with horses
Now, I love my job, and I love a challenge....but sometimes it's not obvious how all these elements could come together.  Horses? Cupcakes? Yikes!
Anyway, I think we nailed it and the client was soooo happy!
