Pretty Cupcakes

How cute are these little cupcakes made for an office party decorated with clusters of sugar flowers!
We have a daily selection of cupcakes and always decorate our cupcakes with a small pink rose and some green leaves.  If you would like some other decoration then we would be happy to oblige of course.

Summer Is Almost Here

After a very long and tiring Canadian winter we decided to start thinking about spring and summer with these new cake designs (actually back in February but we forgot to post them).
Juicy lemons with lots of green and a hint of pink.  This is a 6" round cake and serves 10 - 12 guests or even more if you cut really carefully!
The strawberry cake is a cool summer classic with white flowers and blue accents...does this remind you of lazy days beside the pool?
Also a 6" round cake as above and are part of our pre-designed collection at $70.00 each.

Bridal Shower Cake - The Dress

The bride saw our 'princess dress' cake and wanted us to make a similar cake but using her actual wedding dress picture, which of course we were happy to do.
This was lots of fun to create, though took quite a few hours.

The bride requested a little bit of purple and a little bit of green as an accent colour to this all ivory cake.

Raspberry Roses Shower Cake

This bridal shower has a raspberry pink and bright green theme and the bride chose beautiful roses as her flower.  It seemed obvious to use this fresh design with a hint of fun!
Inside is our bright green kiwi cake with strawberry buttercream.

Shabby Chic Retirement Cake

It's really lots of fun when clients order cakes and say "decorate it however you like" because I get to try out my new styles, techniques and gadgets.
A Facebook friend had posted the wallpaper (right) which I found delightful and just so perfectly shabby chic for a cake.  Since I've got a new edible image printer I decided to try my hand at printing an image to go around this cake and make a matching rose.
Mary, is retiring from the nursing profession so her friends and family are throwing her a party.  When the client came to pick up the cake she was so thrilled and that really made my day!

Purple Blossoms - Copetown Woods Golf and Country Club

A huge wedding cake with a spring theme.  Hand painted vines with purple blossoms and little yellow accents made this cake feel like springtime.
Copetown Woods Golf Course was beautiful and when we delivered the cake there was sunshine everywhere.
There was a surprise of two initials that we didn't know had to go on the cake.  We managed to get them off but it is worth mentioning that all toppers must be brought to us at least one week before the date of the wedding so that we can secure them on to cake, it's not good leaving this to chance in case they didn't fit (which was the case here).
We also removed the silver board from the bottom of the cake and placed it on a Lou Hanson hand made cake stand.

Other Cakes This Week

Gender Reveal Cake:
The mom-to-be brought us an envelope which had a sealed note from her doctor with the sex of the baby written on it.  We made a cake with the corresponding colour on the inside.  The family are gathering this weekend for a party and to find out all together if it's a boy or a girl.

Spring Is In The Air:
Cute little girls cake with blossoms and butterflies, colourful a
and pretty this cake is sure to please!

Bridal Shower Bling:
This cake was girlie and fun for a large bridal shower with a shoes and purses theme.

Pink Blossoms - Edgewater Manor, Stoney Creek

The softest pink blossoms with a hand painted green vine background to the cake, such a soft cake that makes you want to tip your head to one side and say ahhhh.

Little Birds - Art Gallery of Hamilton, AGH

What a cute little cake!  This cake was super high, the bottom tier was 8" high (double the height of a normal cake tier) to give a beautiful wide palette to paint on.  The top tier was 4" high.
The hand made sugar birds were made by Louise Howling, our sugar sculpter.
We hand painted this cake with vibrant greens and deep brown and added deep purple blossoms with even deeper centres and yellow dots in the middle to brighten the tone.
This cake was set on a burlap cloth with a slice of log as a cake stand, perfect!

Mini Cakes

Our mini cakes are more and more popular, each week we are asked to do them for clients who are looking for a good quality cake that says "Happy Anniversary", "Happy Birthday", "Congratulations" and so on, but for two - four people.  On the left are mini Tiffany cakes that we made for a bridal shower tea party.  They were so cute we didn't want them to leave the shop!
Then there was the beautiful cream coloured rose touched with blush pink on top of a cake, just to say "Thank You".

Then we have our little "Happy Birthday" cake all in pink with it's little white bow and tiny pink rosebuds and another "Happy Birthday" with purple fondant and white and green flowers.

A tiny surprise first anniversary cake for two ordered by a husband who wanted to surprise his wife with something special to mark the occasion.
And finally (well it wasn't, but I didn't take pictures of the other two) we have the little bling cake with it's delightful textured bow and miniature brooch which sits in the middle.
This miniature cakes average $15 and are customizable if ordered far enough in advance.  For last minute orders we can only customize the colours for you and flavours are amongst any we have available at the time and can be ordered as little as one hour before you need it (while stocks last of course).

Teddy Bear's Picnic - Ancaster

Little Sofia was turning 3 and a pink and purple birthday party was arranged for her.  This little cake is every little girls dream with teddies and cupcakes and bows and flowers.
All Chocolate Fudge cake.

Graduation Cake - Stoney Creek

This graduation had nothing to do with the black cap and scrolls!  The recipient of this cake wanted something young and cute and fitting with the venue and her pink and soft green outfit.
We used gold dust to texture the background and edible paints to create a leopard skin in soft browns and golds to offset the pale pinks and greens in the decoration.
Inside was one layer of carrot and cream cheese and one layer of pink velvet and pink Champagne butter cream.

Mini Birthday Cake

Sometimes it's nice to give a little gesture for someone's birthday, but if there's just two or three people celebrating then a whole cake is often a little bit more than required.  A pretty little cake for two to four people can fit the bill very nicely.
This cake was ordered for Pauline's 60th birthday by a colleague and since Pauline was actually going away for her birthday she knew that a lot of left over cake would simply go to waste.
We make these miniature cakes for all sorts of occasions.

25th Wedding Anniversary Cake - Seven Windows and La Piazza

This cake was to celebrate a 25th wedding anniversary.  Not what we traditionally think of in terms of colour but exactly what the 'bride' wanted!  She loved our antiquing technique and wanted a cake in ivory and soft pink...and here it is!
There was a small coconut cake ordered for the client's birthday the day before the anniversary but regrettably we don't have any photographs of the tiny cake with the miniature yellow roses on the top, I wish we did, it was cute!

Blossoms For Perri

Perri, one of our brides who has also been a frequent Let Them Eat Cakes client, was turning 30 so her family decided to surprise her with a cake!
Since Perri is soon to be going to New Orleans they wanted the cake to have a fleur de lys somewhere along with pin Oriental blossoms to reflect her love of the Orient.

Happy Birthday Perri

Design Inspirations

Sometimes we get inspiration from wedding invitations.  This cake was just such a design.  Taken from the wedding design elements which included a beautiful blue scrollwork on the invitations with blossoms and branches for a Toronto Art Gallery wedding.

This picture appears in my files and on my screen as being upright, I've tried and tried but it always appears on here as horizontal...so sorry it's also out of focus.  What I was trying to do here was show another example of how a wedding cake can be matched to an invitation.  It's always a great way of getting design inspiration and we always ask couples to bring their invitation with them to consultations.

Little Boy Blue

A tiny sugar baby snuggles amongst little blue blossoms. A ribbon effect technique was applied to the edges of this cloud shaped cake and blue bows were added for a real baby look.
Banana and chocolate chip cake with chocolate buttercream is inside this cake.
