Four Celebrations and a Wedding

Birthday cakes for men always pose a problem, we want to make them exciting and creative, but sometimes it`s not as easy as it sounds!  This time we were asked to make a country/guitar themed cake for an out door birthday party.  We came up with this guitar cake which we are told was a huge hit at the party.

For an intimate wedding often not very much cake is required but it's still fun to have a cake that fulfills all the criteria for an elegant and stylish wedding cake that fits in with the theme of the day.  This bride chose blush and gold for this timeless cake and we added the couples initials "S" and a little pink heart which appeared on their wedding invitation.

We don't often make cakes with a Disney theme (for copyright reasons which we have blogged about in the past).  What we are allowed to do is to take ready made copyrighted items and put them onto a matching cake.  Above is an example of that.  Dressed up with dots and bows, this makes such a cute cake for a little girl or even a grown up princess!

A hand painted cake for Mother's Day.  Imagine this Mom's surprise when she walked in to our tea room on Mother's Day to find this cake waiting for her along with a delicious high tea.

Miniature cakes are often ideal for a small celebration of less than 4 people, or something at the last minute when there isn't time to order a fully custom designed cake.  This little cake was made for a little boys first birthday when he was going to be dressed as a strawberry for a photo shoot because his favourite food is strawberries!

More Cakes

Gold and lace cake with a ribbon of navy blue and an antique finish - Liuna Station - George Room

Purple roses, and lots of them for this beautiful, modern wedding at the Hamilton Art Gallery.

Celebratory cake for McMaster's PGY 3's graduation ceremony....doctors, obviously!

Pretty little pink birthday cake.

My dear friend Wal's birthday on New Year's Day (hence the clock face on the top of the cake).  Champagne and carrot cake is a perfect combination for midnight!

Lily's first birthday with this pink Chanel cake with pretty pink and silver tiara.  Little fashionista in the making, clearly.

Paris.........Oh Paris, what can I say?

Mini cake for Amal's birthday ordered as one of her surprise gifts from her husband.

A Personal Favourite

Five years ago I had the pleasure of making a cake for a wonderful couple who met in Bermuda.  It was a blue hexagonal cake covered in shells and coral.  I also made their fifth anniversary cake.  This time I was asked to make a very special wedding cake for their nice who was getting married in Cambridge.  Happily Ever After was their theme and their colour scheme pinks and ivories.  We took the `banner`effect from their invitation and created this cake which had a scrolly detail just like the invitation also.

Birthdays

A giant cupcake to wish Sarah a happy birthday.  The client chose a pink velvet cake with a blackberry buttercream for the top.  We finished the cake with little sugar flowers and one great big cherry on top!

Stephanie, the birthday girl, loves shabby chic, lots of pink and girly things and of course flowers.  We designed this pretty pink cake with a garden feel to match the garden party that she was having with her friends.  Of course a pale pink vanilla cake inside with a raspberry buttercream made this cake as delicious as it was pretty.

Retro Feel Anniversary Cake

This was a pink vanilla cake inside and on the outside the fondant was piped with royal icing to the specifications of the client which was the original wedding cake 25 years ago!  We love to do this kind of cake and for anniversaries the original cake is a wonderful design clue for us.  The top of the cake was decorated with pink roses and had a hand painted background.

Pictures From Our Workbench

Sometimes we don't get a chance to take pictures of our cakes in the usual way but generally we get a shot of them somehow.  Here are a few that "got away" but were photographed while they were being worked on:

Marie Antoinette's Monogram - Queen's Landing, Niagara on the Lake

The bride and grooms initials were M and A so we used Marie Antoinettes initials as their monogram for this very royal ivory and gold cake for the Queen's Landing in Niagara on the Lake.  Unfortunately it was so dark in the banquet hall we couldn't get a very good picture of the cake :(

Pretty Cupcakes

How cute are these little cupcakes made for an office party decorated with clusters of sugar flowers!
We have a daily selection of cupcakes and always decorate our cupcakes with a small pink rose and some green leaves.  If you would like some other decoration then we would be happy to oblige of course.

Princess!

It's been such a busy time at the shop lately that we've not even had time to photograph all our cakes :(

Here is a little sneak preview of a little baby cake that we did last week with a little princess on the top.  The baby is all sugar and edible of course, with a little tutu and a crown made of sugar which we covered in silver leaf and Swarovski crystals.  Too cute!

This was for a Princess themed baby shower.

Style Me Pretty - We're In It!

We receive more amazing submissions to SMP than we can post in a lifetime. It’s truly difficult to choose which weddings we share right here with you. But sometimes it’s totally obvious… we pick the ones that make us cry. The ones that make us laugh. The ones that make us feel like we’re right there sharing the moment with the couple. This Canadian fete is filled with lush style and elegant details and at the heart is a gorgeous couple that you can’t help but fall in love with. Captured and filmed by Love Madly it’s glamorous while still being utterly sweet. You can see it all right here in the gallery.

Raspberry Roses Shower Cake

This bridal shower has a raspberry pink and bright green theme and the bride chose beautiful roses as her flower.  It seemed obvious to use this fresh design with a hint of fun!
Inside is our bright green kiwi cake with strawberry buttercream.

Graduation Cake

A shabby chic style graduation cake for Annabelle, a blackberry cake inside with white fondant (which Annabelle is a big fan of) and sugar flowers to top the bow that wraps the cake.

Fascinating Cake

For a bridal shower our client asked us for a fascinator cake, something that we'd never done before.  It was great fun trying to make a large fascinating display on the side of this cake, with bling, sugar flowers and feathers.
This fun cake was lemon cake with raspberry filling.

Girlie Shoe Cake

Our client asked us for something cute and pretty for a girls sweet 16.  We dreamed up this little design both with hand painted and sugar flowers and a sugar shoe.
A very sweet 16!

Miniature Roses

A miniature cake for two with lots of tiny sugar flowers, nothing says "I remembered!" like a little treat in a pink box!

Antique Vision

For a 90th birthday we were asked to make something with an antique flair, pink roses and lots and lots of pearls.
We also had to make 100 matching cupcakes in chocolate and salted caramel and vanilla and strawberry all decorated with mini roses.

French Inspiration

This cake was chosen by Zahraa for her birthday, but this style would suit pretty much any occasion, wedding, engagement, birthday, shower anything with a dramatic or a French theme.
The stripes are hand painted with edible ink and the pearls piped on and trimmed with charms and tassels.  The charms were painted with 24kt gold which is of course edible.
Two sugar peonies and edible ivy (real ivy is poisonous and should not be put on cakes) to finish this cake.

This cake was inspired by a Lorri Hutchinson creation.
