More Cakes

Gold and lace cake with a ribbon of navy blue and an antique finish - Liuna Station - George Room

Purple roses, and lots of them for this beautiful, modern wedding at the Hamilton Art Gallery.

Celebratory cake for McMaster's PGY 3's graduation ceremony....doctors, obviously!

Pretty little pink birthday cake.

My dear friend Wal's birthday on New Year's Day (hence the clock face on the top of the cake).  Champagne and carrot cake is a perfect combination for midnight!

Lily's first birthday with this pink Chanel cake with pretty pink and silver tiara.  Little fashionista in the making, clearly.

Paris.........Oh Paris, what can I say?

Mini cake for Amal's birthday ordered as one of her surprise gifts from her husband.

Shabby Chic Retirement Cake

It's really lots of fun when clients order cakes and say "decorate it however you like" because I get to try out my new styles, techniques and gadgets.
A Facebook friend had posted the wallpaper (right) which I found delightful and just so perfectly shabby chic for a cake.  Since I've got a new edible image printer I decided to try my hand at printing an image to go around this cake and make a matching rose.
Mary, is retiring from the nursing profession so her friends and family are throwing her a party.  When the client came to pick up the cake she was so thrilled and that really made my day!

French Inspiration

This cake was chosen by Zahraa for her birthday, but this style would suit pretty much any occasion, wedding, engagement, birthday, shower anything with a dramatic or a French theme.
The stripes are hand painted with edible ink and the pearls piped on and trimmed with charms and tassels.  The charms were painted with 24kt gold which is of course edible.
Two sugar peonies and edible ivy (real ivy is poisonous and should not be put on cakes) to finish this cake.

This cake was inspired by a Lorri Hutchinson creation.

Life Is A Celebration - Royal Botanical Gardens

What could be more fun and festive than this little cake designed to bring a smile to everyone's faces with dots, stripes, flowers, colours and giggling stars on golden stems.
All Chocolate Fudge cake.

Peonies and Gold

This was a rather fun project and a bare faced copy of the work of, in my opinion one of the best cake designers in Canada, Lori Hutchinson (also known as The Caketress).

Lori graciously allowed me to post this as this is, of course my handiwork but her beautiful design.

Pretty Wedding Cake

Weddings seem to be getting smaller and smaller these days, however, the three tiered wedding cake look remains iconic.  You just can't think "wedding cake" when you see a slab!
This is an example of our very smallest cake which serves approximately 50 guests.  It's so cute and perfect for a small wedding when you want something to cut but don't necessarily need a huge white tower of cake!
This size is also a neat idea for a birthday party, dress it up with huge feathers and bright colours....nothing says celebration like cake does!

"Qu'ils mangent de la brioche!"

Here is the Let Them Eat Cakes' entry for the 2009 Bonnie Gordon School Cake Competition.
This cake was made using lots and lots of chocolate. The Fleur de Lys on the top was hand sculpted chocolate, the black rose was also made from chocolate as well as the black detailing, cameos, frames, stripes etc.
The shine was put on the cake using confectioners glaze.

Striped Wedding Cake - Liuna Gardens

When Dina and Kris came to see me about their wedding cake they didn't really have any kind of design or theme in mind.
Eventually we were able to find a design that they felt was unusual enough to reflect the feel they wanted at their wedding using the colours that they had already chosen for their colour scheme.
This was a fun cake to make and I enjoyed working with this colour scheme.  The soft ivory went well with the green and the coral.
