Sea Shells - Ancaster Old Mill

Destination weddings are more and more popular, so we find ourselves doing lots of sea shell cakes.  Here is just one of them that we recently delivered to the Ancaster Old Mill on a cold, windy day in March.
Anyone for a swim?

Beach Wedding - Hamilton Waterfront

For this young couple a beach wedding was organized and they chose sand and shells with pearls and water droplets for their cake and they asked for one or two blue shells on the cake.
The two interlocking starfish are very a propo for a cake topper and all the shells, sand, pearls and 'water' are completely edible.

Beach Bridal Shower Cake

The wedding will take place on the beach in Mykanos so the bridal shower cake had a beach theme.
A very pale background of sea foam houses the tiny white shells, sand, pearls and drops of water.

Destination Wedding

The cake stand was the inspiration for this beach themed wedding cake.  The stand was decorated with shells and star fish, we added pearls and sand for a more laid back feel.

Happy 40th Dan

We at Let Them Eat Cakes love a challenge, but some challenges are still easier than others.
A bride tells us "Before I order my wedding cake for you I'd like you to make a birthday cake for my fiance."  Hmm, no pressure!
Then she says:  "I would like a beach theme with our two dogs on the top" and of course sends me a picture of the two dogs.
Well, it's very difficult to incorporate dogs and beaches into anything really, but I think we managed to capture the essence.  Two lovely sausage dogs playing in the water.
We used sugar shells to decorate the outside.

Bermuda Blue Wedding Cake - Ancaster Old Mill

When Rick and Judy first came to see me, they had very specific ideas about the theme and colour for their wedding cake.  Bermuda blue was their colour and shells and roses was the chosen theme.
Since a square cake (their initial idea) yields so many cake portions (their guest list wasn't that big) I suggested that they use a hexagonal cake pan, giving the yield of a round cake, but the angles of a square cake.  They loved the idea.
The shells were made of chocolate whilst the roses, orchids and blossoms ere made from sugar.  The flowers were dusted with colour and the shells dusted with iridescent shades of pink and blue tones.

After the wedding Rick wrote:

"Lynne,
Judy and I have returned from our fabulous Honeymoon and I wanted to let you know that the cake was absolutely the most beautiful edible art I have ever seen!
Our family and friends were impressed by not only the detail and workmanship, but by the great taste!  Thank you for making a special contribution to our big day. We will
cherish the photos of the cake forever.  AND, we still have the top section to enjoy during a summer Bar-B-Q.  A number of our guests have children with weddings in the future and
they are now aware of you, your work and your website.est wishes,
Rick"
