Golden wedding anniversaries are very special. Even more so when the couple celebrating are family members. My husband's parents celebrated their 50 years together with a beautiful ceremony to renew their vows and a dinner with family and friends....and a cake, of course!

French Inspiration
This cake was chosen by Zahraa for her birthday, but this style would suit pretty much any occasion, wedding, engagement, birthday, shower anything with a dramatic or a French theme. The stripes are hand painted with edible ink and the pearls piped on and trimmed with charms and tassels. The charms were painted with 24kt gold which is of course edible.
Two sugar peonies and edible ivy (real ivy is poisonous and should not be put on cakes) to finish this cake.
This cake was inspired by a Lorri Hutchinson creation.

Peonies and Gold
This was a rather fun project and a bare faced copy of the work of, in my opinion one of the best cake designers in Canada, Lori Hutchinson (also known as The Caketress).
Lori graciously allowed me to post this as this is, of course my handiwork but her beautiful design.
