Busy Week, Lots of Cakes!

This cake was for a little girl celebrating her birthday at a pottery painting studio.  The client chose a painting themed cake and we were happy that at the last minute we were able to help.

Two cakes fit for a princesses first birthday.  The top cake, two tiered with a tiara was for the guests to eat and the birthday girl had a royal cake all to herself.

This cake was made for a client who completely designed her own cake for this happy couple's ninth anniversary celebration.

A horse riding birthday party for Sophia so we put a little prancing pony on her cake!

A shabby chic wedding cake trio, such soft, pretty blush pink offset with gold hand painted filigree.

30th birthday celebration for Ashley, topped off with a blue crown keepsake.

Tiny wedding cakes are always fun to do, this one was no exception.  Hand painted vines complimented the pale pink sugar roses and off white fondant to make a very soft, summery wedding cake.

A Few Cakes From This Week

A sweet sixteen cake all in pink and grey for this very special occasion!

A little birthday cake with a big blue bow.

For a travel themed wedding shower we made these two antique hat boxes with travel stamps all over it and finished with gold painted details to add shine and interest to this lovely cake.

Ah, for a body building enthusiast what do you make?  A cake with weights on the top and names of muscles to develop all the way around.  Even body builders eat cake son their birthday don't they Brian?

Retro Feel Anniversary Cake

This was a pink vanilla cake inside and on the outside the fondant was piped with royal icing to the specifications of the client which was the original wedding cake 25 years ago!  We love to do this kind of cake and for anniversaries the original cake is a wonderful design clue for us.  The top of the cake was decorated with pink roses and had a hand painted background.

Metallic Gold Cakes

metallic gold cake by Let Them Eat Cakes (left) and from Style Me Pretty (right) with photo by Heather WaraksaA metallic gold cake has to be the epitome of wedding luxury – the cakes above by Let Them Eat Cakes (left) and from Style Me Pretty (right) simply exude opulence at a lavish wedding reception. What’s more, they would make a fantastic centrepiece for a 50th anniversary reception also.
The gold metallic effect is very easily created.  There is a wonderful array of edible gold sprays on the market by all the leading brands – Rainbow Dust, PME, Sugar Flair, Squires, Wilton, Dinkydoodle, to name but a few. The metallic gold sprays even come in a choice of light gold and dark gold in some of the brands.
Bear in mind, when spraying your cake, the colour of the fondant or buttercream underneath.  For example, a white iced cake will take much more spray to build up a strong gold sheen than a caramel or beige tinted icing, so it might be worth experimenting with different colour icings before you start our gold wedding or 50th anniversary cake.
Aside from spraying your cake gold, there is also the option of using gold paint applied with a sponge to give a “rubbed gold” effect.  Spraying gives a very even finish but gold paint applied with a sponge to a fondant-covered cake gives elegant an ”antiqued” finish.

Our fabulous examples above showcase the versatility of the gold as a wedding theme – it works with virtually every colour palette, but looks super chic with soft pink in the exquisite examples by Madisons on Main (above left) and from Pinterest (above right).
But if you really want to up the pizzazz, then why not go for gold leaf! It’s so luxurious and never fails to impress as our two stunning examples show -the cake below left is fromWedLuxe, while the cake on the right is by the renowned Australian cake designer, Faye Cahill.

Gold leaf would make a particularly special touch for a 50th anniversary cake. It can, however, be tricky to apply but you’ll find a tutorial here (how to apply gold leaf to a cake) to guide you.

Vintage Style - Anniversary Cake

A last minute order from a distraught husband who had forgotten his and his wife's anniversary!  To add to his pain, there were guests coming for dinner to celebrate!
We were able to create this small two tiered cake for the occasion with cameos and gold numbers with sugar orchids and pearls.  The flavour of the cake was blackberry and vanilla, very yummy.

More Cakes

A pink and zebra birthday cake with bling, of course!  The cameo brooch makes a retro statement and provides a nice keepsake, of course, it doesn't hurt that it has pink rhinestones in it either.

A variation on a recent all white wedding cake design, this time using purple accents.

Black and bling for this wedding cake design, we added a romantic white rose for extra effect and a quilted pattern on the middle tier.

A twenty fifth anniversary celebration marked in style with this blingy cake with lots of silver and sparkles.  We used the original flower colour as well as added berries in the accent colours.

Summer Cake - Paletta Mansion, Burlington

This cake says summer!  For a travel themed wedding at Paletta Mansion this cake matched perfectly the floral arrangements and made me so proud!
The customized logo was made by the bride and groom and printed on an edible image to put onto the cake.
The yellow roses are of course hand made from sugar and the bride chose to compliment them with grey leaves to match the logo.
To my mind the Mansion has rarely looked so beautiful with it's creams and golds and now with tinges of old fashioned yellow roses, brown luggage and huge, huge urns of roses and lilies which filled the rooms with a fresh summer scent.
Ahhh, bliss.
It was also the bride's parents wedding anniversary so a mini anniversary cake was added to the order as well as a sweet 16 cupcake for a little cousin.

Diamond Wedding Anniversary - Waterdown

Diamond Wedding anniversaries don't come around often enough!  This cake was created for a couple who are from England and Scotland respectively so the English rose and the Scottish thistle are just perfect for them.
Topped with a huge amount of bling and it's a perfect diamond wedding cake for them.

Diamond Wedding Anniversary

60 years is a diamond wedding anniversary.  A white and silver cake was ordered to mark this occasion.
We used a rhinestone piece to add bling and sparkle to this pretty white cake.

Love is...... - Toronto

When this client came to take a look at our cakes, she explained that she and her husband had got married, 15 years earlier, they had eloped.  They had never had a wedding cake nor any of the pomp and ceremony of a traditional wedding, so now, 15 years later, they had decided to have the celebration they'd missed.
The "Love Is" cartoons by Kim were very dear to this 'bride' and she specifically wanted a topper to match this theme.  However, these are impossible to find, save may be the odd vintage topper which would be impossible to find at short notice.
We managed to find a suitable image which we printed with an edible image printer and stuck it to sugar paste to form the topper which we dried so that it would stand up nicely.
The bow pictured here was made of chocolate and finished with an edible brooch painted with real silver dust (also edible).  The couple were ecstatic when they came to pick up the cake "much better than we'd even imagined" they said.  Always wonderful to hear!
Top tier Indian Spice cake, middle tier Devils Food cake, bottom tier White Velvet cake.

Golden Wedding Anniversary - Winona Vine Estates

And now for something quite different...a golden wedding anniversary cake with a little more unusual style....wedding pictures were added all around the cake as well as some old family photos to make a 'memory collage' for the happy couple.  I'm sure after 50 years there were many more photographs than we could fit on this cake.
We added gold sugar flowers and antiqued the whole cake with 24k gold dust...everything shimmered as you can see here.
The only thing that is not edible here is the number 50 on the top!

25th Wedding Anniversary Cake - Seven Windows and La Piazza

This cake was to celebrate a 25th wedding anniversary.  Not what we traditionally think of in terms of colour but exactly what the 'bride' wanted!  She loved our antiquing technique and wanted a cake in ivory and soft pink...and here it is!
There was a small coconut cake ordered for the client's birthday the day before the anniversary but regrettably we don't have any photographs of the tiny cake with the miniature yellow roses on the top, I wish we did, it was cute!
