Pictures From Our Workbench

Sometimes we don't get a chance to take pictures of our cakes in the usual way but generally we get a shot of them somehow.  Here are a few that "got away" but were photographed while they were being worked on:

Small Wedding

Pale lilac and bling was the theme for this wedding, the bride was ecstatic when she came to pick up the cake and promised some pictures for us.

Black and Diamond Wedding Cake

With just a little dab of deja vu this cake was the perfect centrepiece for a small local wedding.  The soft quilting pattern at the bottom of the cake gave some texture, the black bow adding drama and the diamond brooch elegance, what a combination!

Black and White - Knollwood Golf Club

Cute little black and white cake with quilting and ribbon feature.  What a cute little cake topper?

Pink Rattle Cake

A cake for a little baby girl, all in pink with little accents of pastel coloured blossoms.  A rattle on the top is decorated with a small white butterfly (alas my photography skills were sadly lacking when I took this picture).

Wedding Cake - Royal Botanical Gardens

A mixture of retro and modern resulted in this striking wedding cake just perfect for a spring wedding.
A quilted fondant, with champagne pearls and champagne bow which was satinized with edible medium.

Red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream and raspberry drizzle.

Engagement Cake

A neat engagement cake for an office party called for something a little more "masculine" than usual.

Babycakes!

Isn't this delightful?  Boy or girl, this little cupcake baby made in a delicate apple green would be perfect for a baby shower or even a first birthday.
Here's the whole cake:

A quilted pattern was applied with tiny edible seed pearls and finished with a big floppy satin (sugar) bow.

Pictured here on a Lou Hanson hand made cake stand.

Chocoalate Boxes - Water Street Cooker, Burlington

This all chocolate cake was the bride's dream and what the bride wants, is what the bride gets!
The chocolate fudge cake was filled with rich chocolate ganache and covered with more ganache and finally chocolate fondant and tied with a chocolate ribbon.  All the little gold pearls were hand painted with 24kt gold and the bow brushed with a gold pearl finish to make it shine.  All the quilting effect is done by hand with painstaking attention to detail.

Patchwork

I enjoy making all cakes, I'm very passionate about what I do, but some cakes are just far more fun than others.  I so enjoyed making this little patchwork cake with all it's different fabric squares.  Each one was hand painted with a different colour and design then 'stitched' with zig-zag piping then embellished with sugar lace, sugar bows, some sugar buttons, a cotton reel and a silver needle (all edible).
The following day I had a wonderful note from the client saying how much the cake had been enjoyed by her mother, an avid quilter, and all her quilting friends who had come to the party.
