Keeping Busy!

A recent wedding cake for a sweet couple delivered to Liuna Station with Peggy, my intern who came all the way from the South of France to see how we make things at Let Them Eat Cakes.

This cake was created using antique poetry and picture frames as a theme and was all white and gold with a hint of silver (as was the decoration at the station).  A rococo theme is always opulent and stunning and we were delighted to be able to work together on this creation which took hours of hand painted 24k gold and silver dust on to sugar as well as sugar flowers and other detailed work.

Purple Week

Well, although this may not look purple in the picture (my photographic skills leave a lot to be desired) it was actually royal purple with a silver bling base and really beautiful blingy lettering on the top.  Such a smart, elegant cake for Geraldos at La Salle Park

Gender reveal cakes are gaining in popularity.  In short, mom-to-be goes and gets her scan after which the doctor writes the sex of the baby on a piece of paper and seals the envelope.  The envelope is then brought into the shop and we take the cake order.  We open the envelope when it's time to bake the cake which we then make either pink or blue.  The outside is decorated with a gender neutral design or both pink and blue with a little message.  The cake is then cut when all the family and friends are together for a gender reveal party.  Cut the cake open to see if you're having a boy or a girl.

Pure white baptism cake....this was a beautiful design for a spring baptism ceremony.  The diamante cross on top was the star of the show, but we also added little pearls all over and a pearl and diamond heart in the middle of the bow.

Royal purple was chosen for this huge purple and diamond cake at Michaelangelo's Banquet Center in Hamilton.  Here are the five tiers in all their glory, but regrettably without the beautiful backdrop which was just being put into place at the time of delivery.

Retro Feel Anniversary Cake

This was a pink vanilla cake inside and on the outside the fondant was piped with royal icing to the specifications of the client which was the original wedding cake 25 years ago!  We love to do this kind of cake and for anniversaries the original cake is a wonderful design clue for us.  The top of the cake was decorated with pink roses and had a hand painted background.

Princess!

It's been such a busy time at the shop lately that we've not even had time to photograph all our cakes :(

Here is a little sneak preview of a little baby cake that we did last week with a little princess on the top.  The baby is all sugar and edible of course, with a little tutu and a crown made of sugar which we covered in silver leaf and Swarovski crystals.  Too cute!

Relax, You're Only 40

For Brenda, one of our long standing clients who has ordered many cakes for friends and family and finally one for her!

Her husband, who ordered the cake, said that she wanted nothing more than to spend the summer lounging on her new deck with a strawberry daiquiri and a pile of books.  So, we created this cake, it's base that looked like wood with three books a cocktail glass and lots of pretty flowers. 

A Very Big Cake - Sheraton Hotel, Hamilton

The largest cake of the week (actually the largest cake of the month) lots of bling, lots of black and silver.

The Sheraton Hotel is just a stone's throw from our shop which is a good thing, it makes delivery so much simpler!

Embroidered Wedding Cake

A pretty little wedding cake for a small wedding.  The bride carried open red roses and her dress had embroidery with sequins and rhinestones so we used these details to design the wedding cake.

Purple and Silver Wedding Cake - Maplewood Lodge, Ancaster

This design was taken from the couple's wedding invitation with purple scrolls and silver hearts.  We added a few purple and white flowers for extra purple.

Silver Wedding - Hamilton Club

Silver wedding anniversary cake based on a design that we originally did for a wedding cake.

Calla lilies were chosen to fill the sugar vase on top of the cake.

Silver Wedding Anniversary

This too was a take on another design that we did previously.  Cala lilies and blue forget me nots were arranged on the top of this cake with balls of fondant painted with real silver dust.  The cake was piped with scrollwork.

Purple and Silver Wedding - The School House

Brian and Carissa originally ordered a birthday cake for their son from us, but since they were also shortly getting married they contacted us about having their wedding cake made for a very small ceremony that was to take place before they flew off to the Caribbean for their destination wedding.

Carissa chose purple accents for her wedding, but had no real theme or style in mind.  Because the wedding reception was in our School House, we designed a cake that had an "old world" theme, with a certain retro elegance.  

The cake was red velvet and vanilla and the white fondant covering was dotted with Swiss dots which were painted with real silver dust and a row of purple lace was added along with the big floppy purple bow.

The flowers at the base of the cake were made from chocolate.

The bride was extatic, the whole room was decorated with white and purple and it was a beautiful sunny day.  Congratulations to you both!
