Keeping Busy!

A recent wedding cake for a sweet couple delivered to Liuna Station with Peggy, my intern who came all the way from the South of France to see how we make things at Let Them Eat Cakes.

This cake was created using antique poetry and picture frames as a theme and was all white and gold with a hint of silver (as was the decoration at the station).  A rococo theme is always opulent and stunning and we were delighted to be able to work together on this creation which took hours of hand painted 24k gold and silver dust on to sugar as well as sugar flowers and other detailed work.

Purple Week

Well, although this may not look purple in the picture (my photographic skills leave a lot to be desired) it was actually royal purple with a silver bling base and really beautiful blingy lettering on the top.  Such a smart, elegant cake for Geraldos at La Salle Park

Gender reveal cakes are gaining in popularity.  In short, mom-to-be goes and gets her scan after which the doctor writes the sex of the baby on a piece of paper and seals the envelope.  The envelope is then brought into the shop and we take the cake order.  We open the envelope when it's time to bake the cake which we then make either pink or blue.  The outside is decorated with a gender neutral design or both pink and blue with a little message.  The cake is then cut when all the family and friends are together for a gender reveal party.  Cut the cake open to see if you're having a boy or a girl.

Pure white baptism cake....this was a beautiful design for a spring baptism ceremony.  The diamante cross on top was the star of the show, but we also added little pearls all over and a pearl and diamond heart in the middle of the bow.

Royal purple was chosen for this huge purple and diamond cake at Michaelangelo's Banquet Center in Hamilton.  Here are the five tiers in all their glory, but regrettably without the beautiful backdrop which was just being put into place at the time of delivery.

A Personal Favourite

Five years ago I had the pleasure of making a cake for a wonderful couple who met in Bermuda.  It was a blue hexagonal cake covered in shells and coral.  I also made their fifth anniversary cake.  This time I was asked to make a very special wedding cake for their nice who was getting married in Cambridge.  Happily Ever After was their theme and their colour scheme pinks and ivories.  We took the `banner`effect from their invitation and created this cake which had a scrolly detail just like the invitation also.

Busy Week, Lots of Cakes!

This cake was for a little girl celebrating her birthday at a pottery painting studio.  The client chose a painting themed cake and we were happy that at the last minute we were able to help.

Two cakes fit for a princesses first birthday.  The top cake, two tiered with a tiara was for the guests to eat and the birthday girl had a royal cake all to herself.

This cake was made for a client who completely designed her own cake for this happy couple's ninth anniversary celebration.

A horse riding birthday party for Sophia so we put a little prancing pony on her cake!

A shabby chic wedding cake trio, such soft, pretty blush pink offset with gold hand painted filigree.

30th birthday celebration for Ashley, topped off with a blue crown keepsake.

Tiny wedding cakes are always fun to do, this one was no exception.  Hand painted vines complimented the pale pink sugar roses and off white fondant to make a very soft, summery wedding cake.

Marie Antoinette's Monogram - Queen's Landing, Niagara on the Lake

The bride and grooms initials were M and A so we used Marie Antoinettes initials as their monogram for this very royal ivory and gold cake for the Queen's Landing in Niagara on the Lake.  Unfortunately it was so dark in the banquet hall we couldn't get a very good picture of the cake :(

Style Me Pretty - We're In It!

We receive more amazing submissions to SMP than we can post in a lifetime. It’s truly difficult to choose which weddings we share right here with you. But sometimes it’s totally obvious… we pick the ones that make us cry. The ones that make us laugh. The ones that make us feel like we’re right there sharing the moment with the couple. This Canadian fete is filled with lush style and elegant details and at the heart is a gorgeous couple that you can’t help but fall in love with. Weddingbells Magazine Feature

Our Gold Roses cake featured in Weddingbells magazine Spring/Summer 2013 issue.  Looks like weddings are going to be golden for 2013 still with a lot of vintage/antique themes included.

Purple Blossoms - Geraldo's At La Salle Park, Burlington

This pretty ivory cake was covered in little blossoms which matched the wedding flowers so beautifully.  Green wispy vines to match the beautiful garden surroundings at La Salle Park and the chosen wedding theme.

A Very Big Cake - Sheraton Hotel, Hamilton

The largest cake of the week (actually the largest cake of the month) lots of bling, lots of black and silver.

The Sheraton Hotel is just a stone's throw from our shop which is a good thing, it makes delivery so much simpler!

All In The Details - Ancaster Old Mill

To match the brides dress and the style of the bridesmaids dresses this all white cake with purple blackberry cake inside was chosen.  We added a fabric style sugar flower with a vintage brooch in the middle.

Calla Lily Wedding Cake

Sadly I took this picture before I'd put all the pretty black filler flowers on!

A simple black and white cake for a small intimate wedding.  Black bling ribbon around each tier with sugar calla lilies to finish the top and little black blossoms.

Purple Blossoms - Copetown Woods Golf and Country Club

A huge wedding cake with a spring theme.  Hand painted vines with purple blossoms and little yellow accents made this cake feel like springtime.

Copetown Woods Golf Course was beautiful and when we delivered the cake there was sunshine everywhere.

There was a surprise of two initials that we didn't know had to go on the cake.  We managed to get them off but it is worth mentioning that all toppers must be brought to us at least one week before the date of the wedding so that we can secure them on to cake, it's not good leaving this to chance in case they didn't fit (which was the case here).

We also removed the silver board from the bottom of the cake and placed it on a Lou Hanson hand made cake stand.

Turquoise and Orange

This weeks personal favourite, something that was inspired by a cake that we've done before in pink and turquoise a kind of shabby chic meets Marie Antoinette for a first communion.

Small Wedding

Pale lilac and bling was the theme for this wedding, the bride was ecstatic when she came to pick up the cake and promised some pictures for us.

White and Silver - Liuna Gardens, Winona

A simple white and silver cake with lots of diamond and sparkles for this Liuna Gardens wedding.

Pink velvet and raspberry cake inside, what a nice surprise for the guests.

Purple Sashes - Hamilton War Plane Museum

Imagine a huge hangar full of light aircraft from across the ages.  Now picture a clearing in the middle with a hundred white satin chairs with huge, deep purple satin sashes, tables draped with purple sashes and bows and now this cake, perched on a table with it's purple satin sashes.

Pink Blossoms - Edgewater Manor, Stoney Creek

The softest pink blossoms with a hand painted green vine background to the cake, such a soft cake that makes you want to tip your head to one side and say ahhhh.

Purple Sash - Carmen's Banquet Centre, Hamilton

This design was taken from the wedding stationery that had embossed white pearlized flowers all over.  A purple sash represented the wedding colours with a beautiful bling brooch to finish the look and to add some sparkle.
