Summer Is Almost Here

After a very long and tiring Canadian winter we decided to start thinking about spring and summer with these new cake designs (actually back in February but we forgot to post them).

Juicy lemons with lots of green and a hint of pink.  This is a 6" round cake and serves 10 - 12 guests or even more if you cut really carefully!

The strawberry cake is a cool summer classic with white flowers and blue accents...does this remind you of lazy days beside the pool?

Purple Blossoms - Geraldo's At La Salle Park, Burlington

This pretty ivory cake was covered in little blossoms which matched the wedding flowers so beautifully.  Green wispy vines to match the beautiful garden surroundings at La Salle Park and the chosen wedding theme.

Raspberry Roses Shower Cake

This bridal shower has a raspberry pink and bright green theme and the bride chose beautiful roses as her flower.  It seemed obvious to use this fresh design with a hint of fun!

Inside is our bright green kiwi cake with strawberry buttercream.

5 Year Survivor

We were privileged to make a cake for a five year survivor of lymphatic cancer.  We certainly love to make cakes for life's milestones.

Two Sisters

Two sisters who have their birthdays at the same time with very different tastes and expectations!

For one a foxy zebra print and hot pink cake, with pink velvet interior - for the other a pale green and lemon design with kiwi cake inside.

Evergreen - Maplewood Lodge, Ancaster

When you're looking for a pretty cake with no flowers...well, how about use leaves?

This cake, was inspired by another cake design but we added the wedding logo (from the invitations and wedding stationery and tiny pink 'berries' just for a little extra pizzazz.

Maplewood Lodge is situated in a deeply wooded area in Ancaster (past Canterbury Bells, near the Old Mill) and this cake was just perfect for a reception in a rustic environment.

Fun at 18

This cake for an 18th birthday represented all the fun and frivolity of the occasion.  Although I barely remember being 18, I'm pretty sure I would have loved this then!

Graduation Cake - Stoney Creek

This graduation had nothing to do with the black cap and scrolls!  The recipient of this cake wanted something young and cute and fitting with the venue and her pink and soft green outfit.

We used gold dust to texture the background and edible paints to create a leopard skin in soft browns and golds to offset the pale pinks and greens in the decoration.

Inside was one layer of carrot and cream cheese and one layer of pink velvet and pink Champagne butter cream.

Jungle Themed Baby Shower

The client brought us in one of the baby shower invitations for us to copy as inspiration for this little cake for baby Gracelyn.  The client also added matching cookies to her order so we used one as the cake topper.

The cake was completely hand painted in edible colours.

Watercolour Apples For Rhoda Katz

Rhoda Katz is a local watercolour artist and celebrating her birthday this weekend.  Her husband came in with a tiny slide of one of her paintings as inspiration for this little cake.  He wanted apples on the cake with some flowers, something like a still life.

After the cake left I Googled Rhoda Katz and found this painting of hers (not the same one as the slide I saw) and now I know why he wanted apples.

Happy Retirement

We started off the week with this little retirement cake, piped with  candy stripe in white and the palest of pink and finished with little pink dots.  We then piled on pretty sugar flowers and filled them with tiny seed pearls (all edible of course).  All this to wish Lorene a happy retirement!

Small Wedding Cake - Hamilton

Small wedding cake for an intimate wedding celebration.  The palest of green pearls in a quilted fondant cake with a coral rose and sage green leaves to match the bride's favourite bracelet.

Babycakes!

Isn't this delightful?  Boy or girl, this little cupcake baby made in a delicate apple green would be perfect for a baby shower or even a first birthday.

Here's the whole cake:

A quilted pattern was applied with tiny edible seed pearls and finished with a big floppy satin (sugar) bow.

Toronto Wedding

This cake in the palest of apple greens was created from a picture the groom provided of a cake in Canadian Bride magazine.

Madeleine's Birthday

It was Madeleine's second birthday and the theme was butterflies, hearts and flowers.  This cake was made to match her napkins and paper plates.  This cute little one tiered cake was just perfect to celebrate this special day. Pink velvet and chocolate fudge.

Mint Green - Barangas on the Beach

Summery and fresh, this minty green sets off the white of the cake beautifully.  Topped with hand made sugar calla lilies and soft green leaves.
Flavour combination - Red Velvet and Vanilla

Cymbidium Orchids and Butterflies - The Hamilton Club

A fine setting of ivories and golds for this wedding cake with the green cymbidiums and creamy ivory fondant.  Two monarch butterflies finished the display.

Bonnie Gordon School 2010 Cake Show

I thought you'd like to see our other entry into the cake exhibition last weekend.  This cake was designed and created by Louise Howling, our creative young designer.

It's a shame that you can't see all the way around this cake the hand painted koi carp painted on the cake were beautiful and the Chinese screen on the top of the cake was so intricate and pretty.

The gold branches were made from modelling chocolate and had fine branches in a very oriental stance.

The sugar phalanopsis orchids were so pretty.

Lazy Daisy - Olympia Ballroom, Hamilton

This cake went to the lucky winner of a free wedding cake! (grand prize at a local bridal show).

The bride chose a Precious Moments theme to her wedding and daisies as her flowers (after her beloved dog Daisy, represented at the top of the cake).
