Small Wedding
Pale lilac and bling was the theme for this wedding, the bride was ecstatic when she came to pick up the cake and promised some pictures for us.

Mini Cakes

Our mini cakes are more and more popular, each week we are asked to do them for clients who are looking for a good quality cake that says "Happy Anniversary", "Happy Birthday", "Congratulations" and so on, but for two - four people. On the left are mini Tiffany cakes that we made for a bridal shower tea party. They were so cute we didn't want them to leave the shop! Then there was the beautiful cream coloured rose touched with blush pink on top of a cake, just to say "Thank You".
Then we have our little "Happy Birthday" cake all in pink with it's little white bow and tiny pink rosebuds and another "Happy Birthday" with purple fondant and white and green flowers.
A tiny surprise first anniversary cake for two ordered by a husband who wanted to surprise his wife with something special to mark the occasion.

And finally (well it wasn't, but I didn't take pictures of the other two) we have the little bling cake with it's delightful textured bow and miniature brooch which sits in the middle. This miniature cakes average $15 and are customizable if ordered far enough in advance. For last minute orders we can only customize the colours for you and flavours are amongst any we have available at the time and can be ordered as little as one hour before you need it (while stocks last of course).

Miniature Tiffany Cakes
For a bridal shower this week we made 35 miniature Tiffany cakes...oh what a lot of work these little babies are, but oh so pretty when they're all sitting in a row.
White velvet cake with vanilla buttercream inside, these little cakes are as delicious to eat as they are to see.

Little Princess Cake
For Kay-Lee's 5th birthday this pretty princess cake with bows and rosebuds finished with a number 5 and a tiara she can wear...every little girl's dream.

Although the number appears to be drooping here, we did fix that but didn't have the opportunity to re-photograph the cake so that it was perfect for Kay-Lee.
The cake inside was pink velvet and the flavour was strawberry.

Chocoalate Boxes - Water Street Cooker, Burlington
This all chocolate cake was the bride's dream and what the bride wants, is what the bride gets!
The chocolate fudge cake was filled with rich chocolate ganache and covered with more ganache and finally chocolate fondant and tied with a chocolate ribbon. All the little gold pearls were hand painted with 24kt gold and the bow brushed with a gold pearl finish to make it shine. All the quilting effect is done by hand with painstaking attention to detail.

Anniversary Cake
Lemon cake with lemon buttercream is inside this little cloud shaped cake. A huge sugar bow and tiny roses gives it elegance as well as a tiny Swiss dot applique.
Golden Wedding
Some cakes you just fall in love with for their simplicity. I had lots of fun creating this cake for a 50th Wedding Anniversary party. Of course the gold decoration is all edible, made of sugar with 24kt gold dust painted on. The brooch in the middle of the bow is made of sugar with Swarovski crystals for that sparkle. The cake was hand painted with pearl stripes (just barely visible but which give a damask look). On the top are paper roses in a creamy ivory.

Happy 13th Birthday
How cute and girlie is this? Ideal for a birthday for a very grown up little girl (or big girl for that matter). Funky colours, modern prints, bows, cupcakes, this cake has it all!
Pictured here on a Handmade Cake Stand this cake looked just perfect.

Miniature Birthday Cake
A question often asked of a cake decorator is "Who makes your birthday cake?" Well, this might help answer this question....we make them for each other!
My sister in law, Louise, also my assistant at Let Them Eat Cakes usually makes my birthday cake.
This little tiny, square cake with sugar flowers and lace pieces was made by me for my good friend June Lynch from Picture Perfect Cakes also in Dundas.
Four cake decorators June, Gordana (M&N Cakes Hamilton also cake decorating teacher from Mohawk College), Pauline Brousseau (From Me To You, Hamilton, cookies and cakes), Louise Howling (Let Them Eat Cakes, Dundas, Cake Designer) and myself went out for dinner. Since none of us eat cake, this was plenty big enough!
Miniature cakes are time consuming to make, require almost as much work as a much larger cake and sometimes the mini cake boards and boxes are more than their larger versions, but they're so cute!

Diamonds and Pearls - Burlington

This white velvet and raspberry cake was covered in sugar diamonds and finished with pearls and a large satin sugar bow. Small crystals were added to the bow and to the cake board. The sugar roses on the top of the cake also have pearlized leaves. The cake was then covered in edible glitter (which unfortunately doesn't photograph well) to give a diamond bright shine to the cake.
