1st Birthday Cake Fit For a Cherub

I don't make many celebration cakes these days, Louise takes care of most of those (and very beautifully I must say!) but occasionally I indulge myself and make one of the designs that I really love.
This first birthday cake was for a client and student of mine who has had me make cakes for her family over the past four years, so I just couldn't resist.
The roses are made of sugar and the frill (called a garret frill) was also from sugar as were the little bows.  The under half of the cake and the cake board was hand painted with tiny rose buds "Laura Ashley syle and everything was finished with a matching lemon ribbon trim.  After taking this picture a happy birthday tag was added of course.
