This was a really fun cake to make. The occasion was an engagement party which was quite a formal affair. The groom had proposed to his fiancee by the lakeshore on a bench near the trees, so they asked that the cake reflect the whole story without being too childish. This isn't as easy as it sounds.
I decided to design this cake with a formal 'wedding cake' style cake at the back with a formal topper (a little ring box made of cake into which I put a huge diamond ring that I'd purchased when I went on a trip to France knowing that some day I'd use it on a cake).
The cake was airbrushed to represent the grass and the water, then trees, grass and flowers were piped on to the board. The little figurines and bench were added as well as some shiny water. The little guy is holding a ring box the same as on the top of the cake with a tiny diamond ring inside with a real crystal.
