Monochrome Wedding Cake - Geraldos at La Salle Park

This simple wedding cake design was chosen to off set the brides parent's wedding cake topper.  The sugar flower was added to one side of the cake as a decoration just in case the topper didn't look right.
It always seems like such a cool idea to have your parents (or even grandparents) wedding cake topper on your cake, however, be aware that plastic and nylon (which most vintage wedding cake toppers are made of) go very yellow and against the clean white fondant they can look very grubby and unappetizing.  The cake, after all, is going to be eaten so you don't want to see something dirty looking placed on the top of it.
It seems to make more sense to have the topper placed next to the wedding cake so that it is part of the design and decoration but not actually part of the cake.
When choosing your wedding cake topper remember that maybe one day your kids will think your topper is cool retro decoration for their own cake, try to find a topper made of porcelain but if you must have plastic, store it in a box in a dark place (even then there are no guarantees).
